Witch Watch Ep. 7 “Kan and Nico’s Channel / The Tea Ceremony is a Piece of Tea Cake” gives us another vignette episode. Two of them, this time, and both depicting the perils of YouTubing and streaming (in a manner of speaking). Both somehow end up being both informative and utterly hilarious.

Synopsis

And yes, magical chaos is a big part of this episode as well.

Alas, Witch Watch only relatively recently began airing several weeks ago. In fact, Witch Watch Ep. 7 “Kan and Nico’s Channel / The Tea Ceremony is a Piece of Tea Cake” only just aired/streamed on May 18, 2025. Thus, we shall be giving you the official synopsis of this episode from Crunchyroll (you can also watch it on Netflix and Hulu) to tease the story without too many spoilers below:

“”I heard you can easily make money.” With that reason alone, Nico and Kanshi started the “Kan and Nico Channel.” Morihito gets irritated about how ignorant Nico and Kanshi are towards creating videos to post online, so he asks their hipster poser classmate, Keigo Magami, for help.”

YouTube but with a different and non-copyrighted name.

Honestly, you could divide the story of Witch Watch Ep. 7 “Kan and Nico’s Channel / The Tea Ceremony is a Piece of Tea Cake” into two separate reviews, and both would be pretty good. All entirely because of how hilarious both stories are, and in ways similar to yet distinct from one another to boot.

Let’s start with “Kan and Nico’s Channel”. It’s basically the story of a pair of amateurs who get into the YouTube content creating business solely because they think it’s going to be easy money. Spoiler alert: it’s not. That particular vignette is actually quite realistic about what it actually takes to make a good YouTube channel. Enough so that actual YouTube content creators might laugh and cringe simultaneously at this vignette. The outcome is also hilariously predictable when you consider Kan’s (voiced by Kōhei Amasaki, and Caleb Yen in English dub) and Nico’s (voiced by Rina Kawaguchi, and Lily Ki in English dub) original goals. Let’s just say that it will make you burst out in a scoff and a giggle.

Tea-Fueled Magical Madness

But now we get to what is in my opinion the best part of this episode: “The Tea Ceremony is a Piece of Tea Cake”. When I read it in the manga, I thought it was the funniest chapters to have ever debuted in Shonen Jump thus far, and upon watching this episode, I still think it’s utterly hilarious. A lot of the hilarity is the logical end result of a whole bunch of farces with impeccable comedic timing. All revolving what is essentially a live-stream of a tea ceremony with the goal of helping someone actually do well in it. You might start busting your gut in laughter as well when everything starts going horribly wrong.

Amazingly, the comedy of this episode is accentuated by surprisingly good animation from Bibury Animation Studios. It’s still not really great animation, but there’s been a noticeable improvement in quality in this episode and in the past few episodes. Not sure what’s happening behind the scenes, but the subtle shift from a pitiful attempt to be realistic into a more stylized animation seems to be improving the overall quality of the anime. We will just have to see if they can keep up that quality.

I don’t think tea ceremonies are supposed to go like this.

Alas, while there is an overall improvement in animation quality in Witch Watch Ep. 7 “Kan and Nico’s Channel / The Tea Ceremony is a Piece of Tea Cake”, it still looks a bit…rough around the edges. This is especially noticeable in close-up shots, where you can see that the details look a bit…wobbly. However, it’s nowhere near as wobbly as in earlier episodes. I do believe that Bibury is getting into its stride here.

Alas though, if you’re looking for bloody action, you will have to look elsewhere. Witch Watch just isn’t that kind of an anime. Especially not in this episode, which is just basically comedy slice of life. If you want bloody action, then might I suggest watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaKaiju No. 8DDDDDAN DA DANSword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online IIZenshuSolo Leveling, and/or Black Butler? Those anime should have more than enough blood and/or action to satisfy any action junkie.
