The upcoming films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are both being delayed for a couple of months each. Doomsday is now releasing on December 18th, 2026, which is seven months later than its previous date. Avengers: Secret Wars is moving its release date to December 17th, 2027 after previously being set for May 7th, 2027.
Disney announced the delays on Thursday afternoon after a reorganization of its theatrical slate going forward. The calendar saw a couple of Marvel films completely move off of dates. The unannounced February 13th, 2026 date is now off the calendar completely. November 6th, 2026 and November 5th, 2027 were both Untitled Marvel Features, but are now listed as Untitled Disney films.
With these changes, that makes Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day the only films slated for a 2026 release from Marvel. This also means that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will come out before Doomsday, on July 31st, 2026. This isn’t the first time that Marvel has swapped around release dates, they did it recently with Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
This likely means that the films will have more time in production, and most importantly, post-production. That also means that VFX artists working tirelessly on these films will have more time to get the best possible effects on screen. For people who are disappointed, this just means that they’ll be able to make the best movies possible.
